One of those moments

This morning I taught one of my sections of Spanish, and the class had one of those moments. You know, the moments that make you realize the joy of what you're doing. Let me set the scene: we had just finished talking about verbs in Spanish that end in an irregular -go in the first person singular form. The students were divided en parejas (in pairs) and had just asked and answered a series of questions with their partner. One of the sentences asked, "¿Dices secretos de tus amigos?" or 'Do you tell secrets about your friends?' One of the students reported back to the class, "Sí, mi compañero dice secretos de sus amigos" or 'Yes, my partner says secrets about his friends.' So then, I turned to the partner and asked, "¿Puedes decirnos un secreto?" ('Can you tell us a secret?') And it began. My student starting telling me about one of his friend's (who happened to be another student in the class) secrets. He reported that his friend (the other student) had a secret girlfriend. In fact, this student had three girlfriends. The more I asked, the more he explained. In Spanish. It was all fake, but he communicated. He made the other students laugh, and for a brief moment, we were all engrossed in his story. I'm not sure it gets better than that.

Tim, actually no! It was just a student who understood what was going on and had a little fun with it. Who knew that could be possible? :)

Amy, thanks for the comment! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
