Lately I've been realizing the importance of sharing meals with other people. Growing up at home, it was always the norm to eat dinner together as a family. No matter how hectic or stressed we all were (and this only seemed to multiply as us kids got to high school), we made every effort to sit down and talk with each other during dinner. Without really realizing it, the same sort of routine was created when I was at Notre Dame. Our group of friends was proud to know that you would always have someone to eat with if you went to dinner at North Dining Hall at 6pm. It was through these dinners, full of random conversations and serious discussions, that my Notre Dame friends turned into family.
Unfortunately at Tech, I don't have a regular routine of sharing meals with others (I'm hoping this will change when my new roommates move in in August...). Don't get me wrong, I do eat many meals with others here, just on more of a sporadic basis. This lack of a routine makes me want to reach out to share meals more. I've especially enjoyed meals I've shared this past week, as I've been able to catch up with people I haven't seen all summer.
I can't predict much about what my future looks like, but I can say for certain that I am going to make it a priority to share meals with others, especially when I have my own family. Afterall, the least I can do is show my children that no table is richer than one surrounded by love.

Hey Eileen
pass the peas, please!
Dad
last night, mom, dad and i went to souplantation (as you know). i, in a burst of boredom, looked at the flippy cards in the middle of the table which describe their different foods and cooking processes and started putting the words to music. it wasn't long until mom, dad and i were making them sound like psalms (squeezing a bunch of syllables on one note before ending with the last word on a half step below). it was awesome and i think you should try it!
haha I love family dinners! The great thing is I can totally picture the whole scene - did you manage to get some harmony in for the singing?
