Happy Tuesday, everyone. So I'm already in the second week of a three week workshop. It has been a good experience so far. I've enjoyed learning from my fellow instructors and getting to know the students better. The students sometimes have the most random stories to share, which always proves to be hilarious. For example, one student developed a theory to explain why people in Texas (especially West Texas) are so darn friendly while the same isn't true in China. According to him, people in West Texas are so happy to finally walk by another human that they always say "hi" to one another. In China, people pass each other so often that if they were to say "hi" to each person, they would go hoarse. It was quite amusing.
Another student explained a closed-loop circuit for his video presentation. He explained this concept by comparing it to when a boy gives a girl flowers and other signs of his affection. If the girl returns with her own signs of affection, it is a closed-loop circuit. However, if the girl does not return the favor, it's an open-loop circuit, and that would just be sad.
Lastly, one student confessed that he thought the United States didn't live up to its great reputation. "It's ok..." he said, "but all of your food is cold." Welcome to America...would you like some mildly reheated fries with that?
Harry Potter has somewhat consumed my past weekend. On Thursday, I saw the fifth movie for the second time. On Friday, I went to the midnight party to buy the seventh (and final) book. Besides a break to go play tennis and go out to dinner, I spent most of the weekend reading. Last night I finally finished. It was somewhat of an emotional rollercoaster - what with feeling excitement, relief to knowing how it ended, and sadness that there would be no more adventures with Harry Potter. It was a fun ride, though.
In just over two weeks, I'll get to see my Notre Dame roommates - YAY! I can hardly wait. :)
Paz.
