I'm about to do something that probably has never been done before: compare the mass with Facebook. I know, I know; they're completely different, and this comparison is rather silly, but hear me out.
I understand that Facebook has a lot of narcissistic and stalkerish qualities. However, I enjoy it because in this virtual reality I can hear from and learn about people I may not be geographically close to. It's a world where my family and high school, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, and now FSU friends reside. I love that I can still feel close to them even when they're not physically present.
Now, to the mass. One of the things I love about the mass is its universalness. I like to think how the same readings I hear in Florida are the ones Chris is hearing in Texas, my parents and sisters are hearing in California, and the Folk Choir is hearing at Notre Dame. And just as I experience the body and blood of Jesus in Florida, so too do these people experience this reality wherever they are. The mass, just like Facebook, unifies us. I feel close to my fellow Catholics through each service, especially as the mass reminds me that we are all part of the same body of Christ. Of course, this bond also applies to all Christians. However, there is a difference between Facebook and mass. God, who is infinitely powerful and great, isn't limited to a virtual reality. God dwells in a reality that is beyond our comprehension, and that's always going to beat Facebook's server. :)
P.S. Tallahassee update:
- I woke up to my first Tropical Storm warning! So far, so good. But I know these things can be quite serious.
- Leslie and I are pretty much the same person. She's such a great temporary roommate and permanent friend!
- I saw a protest outside of the capitol today! It was a protest against the Iraq War. After living three years in Lubbock, it was quite a sight to see! :)
- I now know my way to school, church, the grocery store, Target, and Borders. I'm all set!
- Speaking of Target, I have been there four times in the eleven days I've lived here. If I go broke, I'll have Target to blame.

Home Depot was the killer for us when we first moved. I can't tell you how many times in the first two weeks we went back and forth to Home Depot for one more thing. Sounds like things are going well for you so far. Keep smiling.
