So I just finished the class-intensive part of my week. Classes continue to go well. My methods course is entertaining, my curriculum design class makes me really think about the intricacies behind why teachers choose certain course material, and my spanish course challenges me to critically think about what I read. Good stuff!
And after one week of being a TA, I'm starting to feel like I'm getting the hang of it. Last Friday I led the whole class discussion in one of the ESL courses. It took a bit of creativity to come up with things to say and questions to ask to fill the entire period, but I think it all worked out in the end. I don't think I ever appreciated just how much work goes into teaching, but hopefully it's something I will only get better at as it starts to feel more natural.
This past weekend was great for many reasons. The first is that I went on a retreat with the Catholic Student Association. I met some awesome people and had time to reflect about the "walls" I put up that separate me from God and others. These past few weeks have been pretty stressful and hectic, so it was definitely nice to have some fun and peaceful times. Because of this weekend, I now have friends to eat lunch with (yay!), and, yes, I even learned how to two-step. I'm trying to embrace this new culture I've found here... :)
The other reason this weekend was so great was that Notre Dame won!! Oh man, I was a bit scared when I was at the Tech football game, and they showed scores on the scoreboard during halftime, and it said Notre Dame was down 7-0. But my team came back! This up-coming weekend I should be able to watch the Penn State game, so I'm looking forward to it. It's sure to be another big test. Go Irish!
In other random news, the "v" key of my keyboard fell off. :( If you have any suggestions on how to fix that, it'd be appreciated!!
Nos vemos.
