Summer Fun

I know, I know... it's been awhile. I've been making adjustments to the blog in an attempt to make it more personal and less template-y.

I just got back from Spain with my husband! We had a lot of fun exploring the historic city center and seeing all the sights that the vibrant city had to offer. We filled our days with trips to museums, aquariums, cathedrals, parks, and plazas. We ate yummy tapas and had plenty of sangria/cerveza. I also had to do a bit of work for my dissertation, but that went pretty smoothly. It was fun for me to use my Spanish all the time. Saying "vale" and other Spanish expressions felt more natural this time compared to my first trip to Spain. It was nice to immerse ourselves in another culture if only for a week to change things up from the usual routine here back home.

Here are some photos from the trip:

The university center is located right behind the towers. It's on the edge of the main historical part of town, so it feels more like stereotypical Spain with the narrow winding streets and old buildings.

We saw a puppet show geared for kids on the first evening we arrived. The message of the show was that God loves us (agree) and that we did not descend from monkeys because we don't have tails (hmm). The best part was that the message was conveyed by song and dance.

The Plaza del Ayuntamiento has basically the equivalent of city hall. It's a bustling part of the city, with lots of people always out walking the sidewalks.

The cathedral claims to have the chalice Jesus used at the last supper.

We climbed the Micalet and ended up seeing a beautiful view of the city. We also ended up with sore quad muscles for the next three days.

This was our favorite plaza in the whole city. We never knew what sort of entertainment we would find there. Over the week we saw a man put on a "fire show", a Spanish choir break out into spontaneous song, a group of break dancers, and so many tourists from all over the world.

I finally got to see the Mediterranean Sea! I loved the afternoon sea breeze that it brought - it felt just like the summer days in California.

Overall, we had a wonderful trip. It was a fun adventure and was a lot of fun to have my husband along for the ride.

Hi Eileen. It was great to hear from you. Thanks for the link to your new blog. It was fun to see pictures of Spain. It looks really neat there. Maybe someday we can go with Tim. How's the dissertation? Will you be done soon?

Great to hear from you, Tara! Yes, you'll definitely have to visit Spain with Tim; it's a lot of fun! The dissertation is coming along slowly but surely. I'm hoping to graduate in May!
