Don't look up here

Last week my mom and twin sister recommended that I read the book "Alex and Me." It's a book that's kind of along the lines of "Marley and Me" except in this case Alex is not a mischievous dog, but a intelligent African Grey parrot. The author of this book, Irene, spent thirty years doing research with Alex, trying to get some insight into non-human cognitive processes. She even consulted second language acquisition professors as part of her deal. The book had many endearing stories which showed off the intelligence and even sense of humor of the bird. Needless to say, I finished the book in two and a half days. If you're looking for a quick, up-lifting book, I definitely recommend it.

In other news, I made a decision about where I'm going to work on my doctorate: Florida State University. I've been really tested to trust in God's providence these last few stressful weeks, but for some reason God is calling me out to Tallahassee. I can already see how He's giving me little clues here and there that things will work out. I'm interested to see what He has in store.

Finally, I can't believe that it's already Holy Week. It really doesn't feel like it yet. I'm hoping to be able to download some of the services from Notre Dame. Of all the times in the year, this is when I wish I could be up there. Ah, maybe some day!

Finally again, the Angels won yesterday! Go team! I love that baseball is back in full swing (no pun intended). This weekend they play the dreaded Red Sox. Let's hope they play better against them than they do during the play-offs!
