Tomorrow is officially my first day of 19th grade. I know this semester will be busy and challenging, but that's why I'm in grad school.
We officially had our first student mass today. About ten minutes before it began, the power went out. It didn't take long for those of us in mass choir to realize that this meant that we couldn't use the electric piano, the microphones, or even the projector to show the song lyrics. Fortunately, there were about 10 of us in choir, so we just took the challenge head on and projected our voices as best we could. During the first song, however, our one guitarist broke a string. So there we were without an instrument. We ended the song a capella, but it sounded good. Fortunately, there was a spare guitar around, so we were fine as the mass progressed. It was beautiful to see the consecration of the Eucharist. Father Jim was surrounded by the light of the candles. It was so simple, it was majestic. And then, after all the Eucharistic ministers started walking out to distribute the body and blood of Christ, the lights went on. It made me smile as I realized that Jesus is the light of the world, and we walk in the light when we receive Him. What an awesome reminder.
